LAKE Macquarie took their record winning streak to 24 games to book a place in Saturday's first division grand final.
The Roosters beat Lambton 3-0 in the second leg of their semi-final on Sunday, and coach Chris Turner said he was keen for his club to be the first in Northern NSW history to go through a season and finals series without dropping a point.
"We are just a game away from achieving something pretty special," Turner said. "I thought we'd already achieved that this season, but there always seems to be another goal around the corner."
State league-bound Lake Macquarie meet Charlestown City Blues in the grand final at Adamstown Oval from 2pm.
¦ Adamstown Rosebud have appointed Matt Moncrieff as their head coach for next season.
Moncrieff is the son of well-known sports administrator Bill Moncrieff and returns to the club where he played and coached.
He was Rosebud's reserve-grade coach three years ago before taking took over state league club Toronto Awaba's under-23s side in 2009.
Moncrieff replaces Les True, who was sacked in June. Reserve-grade coach Tommy Spence took over for the rest of this season. It was revealed player pressure was behind True's dismissal.
Rosebud president Peter Smith said this year was "difficult for the club".
"We had to make hard decisions that we thought were in the best interests of the long-term vision of the club."
That "vision" includes a return to the state league within three years.
"We've got a strong base with the current squad and in the first year Matt will bring in a couple of older heads to add that stability," he said.
"I think we'll be a surprise packet next year."
Darren Green will assist Moncrieff.
