CLUB professional Peter Johnston is expecting a weakened field to contest the Merewether Pro-Am which has been rescheduled for October 12 and 13.
The club has not had time to properly prepare the course for the pro-am, which was originally scheduled for today and tomorrow, due to the amount of rain which has fallen recently.
The new date clashes with $1 million ($1.12 million) One Asian tour event, the China Classic, to be played from October 14 to 17 in Shunde.
The event in China is expected to attract Newcastle's 2008 and 2009 NSW Open winners Aaron Townsend (Charlestown) and Leigh McKechnie (Waratah).
Brisbane's Andre Stolz is another big name who was booked to play in the pro-am, but he is also likely to miss the revised date.
"Maybe those guys will go to China, I'm not too sure, but we'll get a field," Johnston said.
"Whether we get the same calibre we would have had is another thing."
Former Test cricketer Kerry O'Keefe will still be the special guest at the pro-am dinner on October 12.
It is still unknown if the washed out Charlestown Pro-Am will be rescheduled.
¦ Charlestown and Newcastle meet in round five of the junior pennants at Sugar Valley on August 29 as the only undefeated sides.
Charlestown beat the previously undefeated Merewether 3.5 to 2 on Sunday, and Newcastle had the bye.
Charlestown will be without their top two players, Jake Higginbottom and Brayden Petersen, due to the NSW Foursomes at The Coast course in Sydney.
In other results, Belmont beat Waratah 3-2.5 and Toronto won their tie with Sugar Valley 4.5-1.
¦ Oaks professional Kieran McMahon has one last golfing event planned, on Friday at Branxton, before he heads off on his mammoth Variety Bash tour.
The charity golf day will raise money for the Variety Children's Charity to help pay for community assets in regional NSW.
McMahon's tour leaves Flemington Markets on August 21 and in 10 days travels to Temora, Bourke, Cobar, Moree, Toowoomba, Lismore and Byron Bay.
Friday's event is a nine-hole Ambrose beginning at noon. Entry is $50 and first prize is a pallet of beer.
¦ Last week's deluge has played havoc for organisers at Charlestown Golf Club.

Today's 10th Lake Macquarie Senior will be replayed in September, tomorrow's 11th Ladies Gala Day has been moved to September 22, and Thursday's 12th Veterans Cup has been rescheduled for September 23.
