FORMER Newcastle Knights premiership-winning coach Michael Hagan got his hands on another cup on Saturday, albeit a far less glamorous one.
Hagan won the Charlestown Stableford trophy with a score of 45.
Hagan became a Charlestown golf member 12 months ago with friend and former Canberra, Roosters and Knights fullback Gary Wurth and plays off a handicap in the 20s.
¦ Mark Porter from the Phoenix Sports Social Golf Club is known as a big hitter.
He lived up to that reputation on August 22 when he sunk a hole in one on the par-four second hole at Merewether.
Playing off a generous handicap of 10, Porter hit a sweet drive across the edge of the dam onto the green to ace the 295-metre hole.
The effort earned Porter six Stableford points. Porter's hole in one is the third from Phoenix golfers in the past 15 years.
Others include Craig Wettig's effort on the par-three third hole at Merewether and Brian Wiebe's ace at Waratah.
¦ Merewether became the inaugural Newcastle Hunter district ladies grade pennants champion yesterday after beating Nelson Bay 3-2 in the grand final at Waratah.
For the first time clubs from the Upper Hunter zone were included in the competition.
The winners from Merewether were Sue Horton, Melinda Younan and Annie Maslowicz, while Nelson Bay's Elizabeth Pfennigworth and Arienne Hellmrich won their matches.
¦ Charlestown and Shortland Waters will host next month's Oc Colley Cup to decide the best B and C-grade golfers in Newcastle.
The event will be held on September 19.
Last year's B-grade champion was Belmont's Ivan Lewis and Charlestown's Isaac Lancaster won C-grade.

The four-person Ambrose costs $25 and includes dinner.
