The Morisset Pro-Am on Saturday and Sunday tees off a big five days of golf in the Hunter that includes the Charlestown Pro-Am on Monday and the two-day Merewether Pro-Am next Tuesday.

Knight is scheduled to complete his three-year traineeship at the end of the year, as will Merewether's Josh de Groot and Waratah's Andrew McCormack.

McCormack will also line up at Morisset, but de Groot missed the starting list and is a reserve for the tournament.

"The focus for me at the moment is to play some pro-ams and hopefully be able to play quite a few more next year," Knight said.

"It's a great chance for us. Instead of playing the trainee matches, you get to go up a level and play with some of the big boys and also do some networking through the pro-am circuit."

Knight also plans to use the three pro-ams as preparation for the NSW Trainee Championships at Hawks Nest starting on August 24.

"This will be real good for a lead-in, so we can play the five consecutive days and you can almost treat it as a five-day tournament, so it's great preparation for four-round tournaments," he said.

The 30-year-old quit golf in 2001 and became a car salesman, but his love for the sport lured him back to the fairways to begin a traineeship at The Vintage in 2008.

The trainee tour resumed at Pacific Dunes yesterday.

Play was difficult with strong westerly winds.

Knight shot an eight-over 80 to finish fifth.
