WARATAH junior Leigh McKechnie sees a wealth of opportunity in Asia.
This month the 36-year-old finished 31st in the $US1 million ($1.114 million) Indonesian Open at Pantai Indah Kapuk Golf Course in Jakarta, which is part of the OneAsia Tour.
McKechnie's par 288 was his best performance from three OneAsia starts.
McKechnie finished sixth in a $100,000 pro-am event at Capricorn Resort at Yeppoon, Queensland, on Sunday with a score of 283.
Today he will begin the Rockhampton Pro-Am at the Capricorn Country Club.
The Australian pro-am circuit then rolls into the Hunter where McKechnie will start as local favourite for the Morisset Pro-Am on August 7, followed by the Merewether Pro-Am on August 10.
He said the tournaments would provide ideal preparation for his next OneAsia event, the Thailand Open, in Bangkok on August 26.
"It's always good to come back home and spend time with the family, but at the moment I'm just warming up with some events for those Asian ones," he said.
He said defending his NSW Open title at the Vintage in November was another priority, but admitted his form had slipped from when he came from seven shots down to beat Jason Norris with a closing 69.
"I'm tried to make some changes in my swing, just to try and improve," he said.
"I've probably made a step sideways as far as my game goes, but I'm trying to improve all the time and hopefully it'll kick into gear for the busy end-of-year season."
