BELMONT'S Ethan Morris is aiming to put his name back in the reckoning for Newcastle district selection by impressing over the next month.
The 18-year-old is looking to contest the Pacific Dunes Open Amateur NSW Vardon event on Saturday followed by the Seaside Classic at Port Macquarie starting on July 27 and the Jack Newton Muswellbrook Junior Masters on August 14.
Morris represented Newcastle last year when he was a member at Waratah, but a transfer to Belmont this year to be closer to home has led to his representative career stalling.
"I didn't play in any of those [rep events] recently because I moved clubs to Belmont, so I wasn't at Waratah," Morris said.
"That's how I was getting into it because I knew a lot of the guys through Waratah so they knew I was playing, but since I've moved to Belmont they haven't known I was playing as much so I haven't played in any district events this year."
Morris missed the cut at the Jack Newtown Junior State Age Championships last week after scores of 85 and 83 but responded by winning the 18-years men's consolation plate by a shot on Friday at Mollymook on the South Coast.
He shot 84 and 79 to beat Ashlar's Nathan Peters in high winds.
"They weren't even good scores really, it was just the conditions, everyone was struggling in the last two days," Morris said.
