SCONE teenager Nathan Waters showed everyone on the weekend at the Muswellbrook Masters why Sydney's Long Reef Golf Club signed him for their pennants team.
The 17-year-old won his first Jack Newton Junior Golf masters event on Sunday when he claimed the overall boys title.
Strong winds had little effect on his swing as he shot 73 and 74 for a three-over 147.
Muswellbrook rival and fellow St Joseph's Aberdeen student Dylan Perry looked set to claim the title on his home course when he had a one-shot lead over Waters going into the back nine.
But then disaster struck for Perry as the 15-year-old had four straight bogeys from the 11th to the 14th hole to hand Waters the title.
Perry tied for second with The Australian's Andrew Best and Concord's Jarrod Freeman.
Freeman has dominated the Jack Newton Masters series this year, winning events at South West Rocks and Campbelltown.
Waters and Perry have signed scholarships with Long Reef aimed at providing junior country golfers with the opportunity to play and train at metropolitan courses.
Waters has been named in the train-on squad for NSW junior team and the final squad will be picked after the Srixon International Junior Classic at Maitland starting on October 5.
The fifth and final Jack Newton Masters event will be held at Goulburn on October 30 and 31.
