Snozz on right track

03 Sep, 2010 05:00 AM
SNOZZ can add to his impressive record at The Gardens in tomorrow night's group 2 Black Top Final (515 metres).

He has won four of his seven starts at the track and clocked the fastest time of the four heats (29.51 seconds) when he led from box eight in winning by 3? lengths from Daydream in his heat last Saturday.

Snozz turned four on Wednesday and is the oldest runner in the field but he has been pleasing Richmond Vale trainer Jason Mackay with the way he has been starting in recent races.

"He is flying at the moment and ran by far the quickest time in the the heats and there were some very good dogs engaged," Mackay said.

"He has been coming out well and when he leads he is very hard to run down but if he gets headed then he will chase and chase hard.

"During his career he has had more injuries than a football team and all up has missed about 12 months of racing.

"The older he gets the better he seems to be getting and is pulling up well after his races. I think he will be at his best over the next six months."

Snozz has won his past two starts, both times from box eight, and is now handling outside boxes much better after wanting to crash to the fence when he drew wide earlier in his career.

"He has worked it out now and is in the final right up to his ears," Mackay said.

Snozz has lost once in his past four outings and that was when he was a tragedy beaten in the NSW final of the National Sprint Championship at Sydney's Wentworth Park on August 14.

He got pulled down from behind and after slipping back to fourth finished strongly for second, 4? lengths behind Smooth Fancy.

Smooth Fancy confirmed that form by winning the National Sprint Final at Angle Park last Saturday night.

Mackay has sound prospects with Velocity Cloud in the Lord Mayor's Cup (600m).
