RECORD-breaking Cessnock jockey Robert Thompson will have a busy 24 hours chasing winners at meetings at Canterbury and the Gold Coast.
Thompson will ride at tonight’s Canterbury Stakes meeting and tomorrow heads for Queensland for the Magic Millions race day.
He has two rides for Scone trainer Rod Northam in Sydney tonight.
Thompson will ride Northam’s promising sprinter Babelicious in the Nat Zanardo benchmark75 Handicap (1200m).
She was also entered for the BMW Summer Sales Drive Handicap (1100metres), but Northam believes the 1200m will suit her better.
He will also ride Penteli for Northam in the Driving Relationships Handicap (1550m).
Thompson will then have to be up early to catch the first flight north to the Gold Coast where he is booked to ride in the first race at 12.05pm.
‘‘I hope I can catch up on a bit of sleep on the plane,’’ said Thompson, who has now ridden 3703 winners.
‘‘It will be a couple of big trips, but when you’re asked to ride at these type of meetings it is an honour to take part. With a bit of luck there might be a winner for me to top it off.’’
He has six rides on the nine-event Gold Coast program, but one of his mounts can help complete an amazing double for Thompson.
He rides Pepperwood in the $200,000 Magic Millions Stayer’s Cup (1800m), the same horse he rode to victory in this race in 2009.
He has also won a Bernborough Handicap (1600m) in Brisbane over 1600m on the Liam Birchley-trained seven-year-old.
‘‘He has been a great old horse to me and it is great to be back on Pepperwood,’’ Thompson said.
‘‘On his day he can produce a terrific finishing burst.’’
Thompson will also ride in one of the feature events, the $1million Magic Millions Guineas (1400m).
He again links with Liam Birchley on Show A Prince in the big race.
Thompson will ride Wears Red Feathers for Newcastle trainer Alan Scorse.
He also rides Push Forward in the opener, the $100,000 Magic Millions Maiden over 1200m.
He will then be on Free Drive in the $100,000 class six over 1200m and Here De Angels in the $400,000 Magic Millions Cup (1400m).
