Lees has three degrees of separation at Doomben

28 Aug, 2010 05:00 AM
NEWCASTLE trainer Kris Lees has three very good extra reasons to keep a close eye on more than just Visa Lisa when his handy mare runs her last race in Brisbane today.

Visa Lisa is headed for New Zealand and a trip to stud to be served by Swiss Ace after she runs in the Plough Inn Tavern Handicap over 1200 metres at Doomben.

Visa Lisa, second favourite in early markets at $4.60, was trained by Lees but went through the sale ring when owner Ron Croghan thought her best racing days were over.

She was purchased by high-profile businessman Gerry Harvey as a racing and breeding proposition.

Harvey decided to give the mare back to Lees to train and he has elected to give her a winning chance at her last race start by heading to Brisbane.

In the same race are three other performers formerly prepared by Lees. Lining up against Lees are his old stable mates Healy Creek (Pat Webster), Beyonce's Star (Bryan Guy) and Getamoveon (Pat Webster).

"It would be great to see Visa Lisa go out a winner as she has proven more than handy throughout her career," Lees said.

Visa Lisa won five of her 32 starts and $255,880 in prizemoney.

Lees will be hoping that Visa Lisa will be part of a three-track winning spectacular for the Newcastle mentor.

His winning run continued at Gosford on Thursday when El Tegra made it two wins in a row and he hopes more winners flow today.

He has several winning prospects on his home track at Broadmeadow.

In Sydney he will be represented by Timetable in race eight, a benchmark 85 1500m handicap, and Lacada Siren, which contests race one, a 1400m handicap.

Lacada Siren showed a return to form when she finished third at Rosehill over 1400m.

Timetable has his second start for Lees after the former British performer turned in an even effort when eighth at Randwick over 1300m on August 7.

"He still may need more time, but he is going well and should improve on his first-up effort for me," Lees said.

Master Broadmeadow trainer Paul Perry will saddle up Prince Braeman and Newport at Rosehill today.

Prince Braeman runs in the Concorde Stakes over 1100m and Newport in the 1800m Premier's Cup.

Both are being aimed at the Newcastle Cup carnival on September 15 and 16.

Prince Braeman will run in the $150,000 group 3 Cameron Handicap over 1300m on the Wednesday.

Newport will contest the $185,000 Newcastle Cup over 2300m the following day.

"Both are ticking over well and are on track for Newcastle," Perry said.
