THE vital Newcastle Jockey Club board of directors meeting set down for today has been transferred to Monday.
Chairman Geoff Barnett said a hot topic for discussion would be reducing the number of directors on the board from 10.
‘‘It is a matter we believe has to be resolved,’’ Barnett told Stable Talk.
‘‘If the board believes it is best to reduce the number of directors it would then have to be put to the members.’’
An extraordinary general meeting for members would have to be staged and it would take a 75 per cent-plus yes vote for the club constitution to be changed.
‘‘It seems today 10 is considered too many on a board,’’ Barnett said.
‘‘We are discussing the matter with other clubs who have reduced their numbers. We will also discuss changing the method of voting for elections at the club.’’
Meanwhile, Barnett said there must have been an oversight in the latest Racing NSW calendar.
The calendar states that the Newcastle Newmarket will be staged on Wednesday, March 21, but there is no mention of a sponsor, which is usually the case.
‘‘We have a three-year deal for the Newmarket with Nathan Tinkler, so it simply must have been an oversight to leave the sponsor’s name off the advertising,’’ Barnett said.
