NEWCASTLE apprentice Blake Spriggs has confirmed he will be staying in Sydney with the Gai Waterhouse stable.
Spriggs has been with Waterhouse on a three-month loan but the papers have been signed to make the move permanent, beginning next week.
The apprentice stole the limelight two weeks ago when he rode five winners at Rosehill, including a first stakes win on Mr Unforgettable in the listed Winter Stakes.
"I've signed over until the end of my apprenticeship," Spriggs said.
"I'm just taking it step by step, but I'm happy to keep the association going long term."
Spriggs has set himself the target of winning the Sydney apprentices' premiership next season.
He said the opportunity to ride Waterhouse's lightweight horses would help him reach that target. AAP
