BNC defence to play key role

20 Jun, 2009 05:00 AM
DEFENDERS Natarlia Manning and Zara Francisco will be in charge of trying to stop Newcastle open netball championship leaders Nags Head Hotel in today's match at National Park.

The talented pair have been in excellent form at the defensive end for Brewery Netball Club's number one team this season and will need to be at their best if they are going to topple the defending champions.

BNC (1) are fourth on the ladder but will be encouraged by their first-round result when they were beaten by just four goals.

"We've had a few injuries and some of the girls have been sick recently so we're going well considering," BNC (1) skipper Cherie Puru said.

In today's other matches, Junction Hotel (1) play BNC (2), Lakeside Village Tavern take on Junction Hotel (2) and Bilbie Dan will be searching for their first win against Hotel Premier.
