RANKIN Park netballer Samantha Poolman is sinking some serious goals towards her aim of playing for the NSW Swifts.
The goal keeper or goal defence returned last week from Canberra, where she was part of Australia's victorious under-19 side.
The junior Diamonds defeated the English under 19s 3-0 in their series and trumped the New Zealand under 21s 2-1 at the Australian Institute of Sport.
Australia had a rushed two-day preparation after the women were selected from trials at the institute on July 17 and 18.
"A lot of their girls play for New Zealand ANZ Championship teams and none of us play ANZ," Poolman said.
"For us to beat them with how much they've been training and we've been put together in two days, is a huge achievement."
It was the second time the 19-year-old from Wests Leagues Netball Club had been selected in the Australian under-19 squad, which was launched last year for the first time.
Poolman played in 3? of the six Australian games.
"I was extremely pleased considering there were seven AIS girls in the team and pretty much all of them were defenders and they're known in our sport to be the best in their age group," she said.
"So to get picked with them and actually get court time was awesome."
Poolman's representative program is over for the year and she is preparing for the NSW Blues' first match of the Australian Netball League (ANL) against the Victorian Fury on Saturday night in Lidcombe, in western Sydney.
The ANL is a feeder competition to the ANZ Championship.
In between training and playing, Poolman juggles casual work at Newcastle Jockey Club, Rebel Sport and conducts school holiday clinics in Sydney for former Australian captain Liz Ellis.
"Travelling and going away all the time does get pretty hectic but I'd rather live here than in Sydney," she said.
