Newcastle state case for age titles

27 Apr, 2009 05:00 AM
THE Newcastle Netball Club dominated the Hunter State League finals yesterday at the Federation Centre in Maitland when it won three of the five divisions.

The Hunter State League brought together 34 teams from across the Hunter and Central Coast.

It was used as an trial run for the prestigious state championships in June and the state age championships in July.

It was a Newcastle shut-out in division two, where the under-17 team surprised their under-21 clubmates 31-18.

Newcastle also won division three 15-14 over Woy Woy and beat Maitland 28-17 in division five.

But the powerful Charlestown club took out division one by knocking off home team Maitland 24-17.

Maitland had to settle for their third runners-up tag when they lost the division-three final 23-19 to Lakeside.
