Premier throw down the gauntlet

04 May, 2009 05:00 AM
HOTEL Premier showed they will be a force in this season's Newcastle open netball championship when they upset defending champions Nags Head Hotel at National Park on Saturday.

Known in past years as Hotel Delaney, Hotel Premier dominated the round-three clash to win 36-26 in windy conditions.

Lakeside Village Tavern went within a whisker of making it a double upset when they jumped to an 11-7 lead over last year's beaten grand finalists Junction Hotel (1) at quarter-time.

But the experience of the Junction Hotel side got them home 38-35.

Junction Hotel (2) completed a winning double for their club when they cruised to a 48-31 win over Bilbie Dan on the adjacent court.

BNC (1) were without Australian under-19 shooter Natarlia Manning but still managed to score a convincing 38-20 win over clubmates BNC (2).
