Young Bilbies blow BNC away

16 Aug, 2010 05:00 AM
NEWCASTLE open netball championship finals debutants Bilbie Dan eliminated defending champions BNC Albion 1A with a 41-39 win in Saturday's minor semi-final.

BNC had no answer to Bilbie Dan's shooting combination of Amanda Cowburn and Lucy Geise, who ruthlessly finished off the young side's impressive mid-court play.

"We put it [the loss] down to lack of training and our combinations," BNC spokeswoman Brooke Elers said.

"We were in the game, but had to play catch-up netball from half-time."

The win earned Bilbie Dan a week's rest before they return on August 28 to play the loser of the Nova-Nags Head Hotel major semi-final to be played next Saturday.

? Australia completed a 3-0 series whitewash of Jamaica with a 71-40 win over the Sunshine Girls at the Gold Coast Convention Centre yesterday.
