PREMIERSHIP-winning Knights back-rower Daniel Abraham will return to the Newcastle Rugby League tomorrow wearing the Kurri Kurri No.6 jumper against Wyong at Morry Breen Oval.
Abraham started his senior rugby league career with the Toronto Scorpions, now known as Macquarie, and will return for the first time since 1999 when he was a member of the Newcastle under-18 team.
A member of the Knights 2001 grand final-winning team, Abraham played 100 NRL games for Newcastle between 2000 and 2007.
He returned to Newcastle last weekend after parting ways with Queensland Cup club Mackay where he was captain.
"Abes [Abraham] will slot in at five-eighth because that's where he's been playing in the Q Cup," Kurri captain and former Knights teammate Reegan Tanner said.
"Mitch Steel has been playing five-eighth, but he's carried a shoulder injury for the last couple of weeks so I think he'll probably have this week off to get it right."
Abraham will reunite with best mate and another former Knights teammate in Luke Quigley, who he said he would never play against.
"Quigs [Quigley] has been a bit quiet without his right-hand man around," Tanner laughed. "They are both top blokes and they will be good to have around the place on and off the field."
Consistency has been a problem for the fourth-placed Bulldogs who equalled their best winning sequence of two last weekend.
Victories over Lakes United and Macquarie followed three straight losses to lower-ranked teams Nelson Bay and South Newcastle, and leaders Cessnock.
"That [consistency] has definitely been our biggest problem," Tanner said. "We started the season well and then we hit a flat spot towards the end of the first round.
"Hopefully we're over that and we can start stringing a few wins together."
Tanner said hooker Mitch Williams orchestrated Wyong's 32-14 win at Kurri Sportsground earlier in the season, and he would be the their prime target on Sunday.
Nelson Bay have the chance to avenge their first-round 40-24 loss to Macquarie when they host the Scorpions tomorrow at Tomaree Oval.
The match of the round is at Cessnock Sportsground today where the competition leaders host Central Charlestown, who are one point behind the Goannas on the ladder. The first-round clash was played in atrocious conditions at St John Oval and Central won 26-10.
In today's other matches, South host Maitland at Townson Oval and Lakes play Western Suburbs at Cahill Oval.
