Knights and Country Rugby League to field Central Coast Crusaders

17 Nov, 2009 05:40 PM
THE Newcastle Knights have joined forces with the Country Rugby League to field a Central Coast-based team in the second-tier NSW Cup competition next year.

The team will be known as the Central Coast Crusaders and will be boosted each week by Knights players not selected for Newcastle's National Rugby League and National Youth Competition (under 20s) teams.

Knights chief executive officer Steve Burraston said the club would still maintain their relationship with the Newcastle Rugby League while establishing stronger ties with the Central Coast.

If Hunter Venues dont start helping the Knights organisation in the same way the Queensland State Government do with the Broncos the Knights will be left with no option but to take up a better deal that is quite likely being offered to move to Gosford for Home matches.

As what happened when gold coast tried to use the redcliffe dolphins name , legal action was about to be taken.. Gold Coast had merchandise made with dolphins on it.. and they had to change their name then to the titans.. The Central Coast Cubs were the prefferred name for the juniors on the CC as picked by the CC residents.. so WHY didn't the CRL go for this name..if they have to change their name from the crusaders..a little embarrassing dont you think..Go with the CC Cubs and give the people what they want.. Newcastle are not going to leave Energy australia.. they just want to try and stitch up the CC juniors, and are scared completely about the juggernaught known as the CC Bears.. 3 million in the bank and counting...

Central Coast Cubs is pathetic! Obviously you like that because it has an association with the Bears. The Bears office is on the Coast - that is about the only connections they have with the Central Coast Rugby League. North Sydney Bears have no future on the Central Coast as they are not committed to working WITH Central Coast Rugby League and CRL - they want to TAKE OVER. Col, probably best if you get the facts as to why CRL aren't supporting the Bears in their venture.

Crussie, The Bears are commited to working with the CRL and CCRL. What a load, What in Gods name are they trying to take over ? Last time I checked there was not an NRL team on the Central Coast. People are seeing straight through these flimsy smokesecreens. Stop wasting kilobytes with this dribble.

The timing is more than just a little opportunistic. If the Knights don't win their stoush with Hunter venues then what option will they have left but to rename themselves the Newcastle & Central Coast Knights and play their matches out of Gosford? It's called hedging your bets. Actually, I think that they should change their name, claim the CC and split their games between EAS and Bluetongue before the Bears turn their toehold into a stranglehold. They then stitch up another fast growing region of 300,000 people and become the only gig on the F3. Seems logical to me (a Knights season ticket holder of 20 years).

Readmit the Bears to the NRL - as NORTH SYDNEY. They should never have been kicked out in the first place. The only reason that they have the slightest interest in the Central Coast is that Gosford has a vacant stadium and they see it as their best option for readmission to the big league. The North Shore should have a second team and that is where they belong - not on the Central Coast.
