Stone chasing Webb signature

30 Aug, 2010 05:00 AM
SIX years after he knocked back the Knights to join North Queensland, rugged prop Carl Webb is again in Newcastle's sights.

Knights coach Rick Stone travelled to Sydney yesterday to meet Webb and ascertain his interest in linking with Newcastle next season.

Off contract and unwanted by the Cowboys, the former Queensland and Test prop is reported to have attracted interest from Parramatta, Penrith and English Super League clubs.

The 29-year-old sought permission from Cowboys management to stop off on their flight home from Canberra to liaise with Stone.

The Knights are looking for another forward or two to beef up their pack for next season.

A veteran of 180 NRL games, Webb can be explosive but has been known to struggle with his fitness.

Is there anyone coming off contract that Stone has not spoken to, it seems his strike rate in signing new players for the knights is about on par with his coaching strike rate,

He's a poor player. They're scraping the bottom of the barrel now.

So, Rick Stone, the major motivational mover and shaker behind the 'top draw' week in week out performing Knights believes he can 'ignite' the formerly explosive Carl Webb. He cannot be serious!. I suggest our 'super coach' travels out to Cessnock and asks young gun Joel Edwards if he has any mates that can play a bit, because thats about the only way Mr Stone and associates will 'discover' the undoubted raw talent that has always been there, in the Knights player catchment area. That was until 'offshore' shortcuts became more attractive. Rebuild some/any truly 'local' playing culture into the Knights realm and we will once again have a footy club we can all be proud of.

I'm really feeling sorry for Joel Edwards right now. First Kafusi and now Webb? How much more of North Queensland's most unwanted are we going to recruit? The few opportunities Joel received in FG from Stone showed that he is far more deserving of a spot than the likes of Kafusi and Tolar. And now we're going to recruit yet another washed up hasbeen to put in front of him. Yep that makes sense. Good long term thinking right there bringing Carl Webb to the club.

More like Charlotte Webb. The fans in Nth Qld cant stand him and ask for him in the local paper up there to be dropped every week. Trust me i know i lived there for 5yrs unfortunatly. He drops the ball about 5 times every game, the last thing we need is another forward that drops the ball.

Get in your car, roll down the window throw a dart at a crowd of 5 people and you'll hit one person that could play better than this bloke! Seriously Carl Webb??? What year is this! Give joel edwards a crack for gods sake or give mark tafua some more game time!
