Shark attack at NSW beach

03 Jan, 2012 08:26 PM

A man was attacked by a shark while surfing on North Avoca Beach this evening, the surf lifesaving club says.

The victim was a 28-year-old man who lived near the beach, according to Rick Parsons, president of the North Avoca Surf Lifesaving Club.

The man was surfing after 7 pm when a shark bit his arm but did not sever it. Mr Parsons said witnesses had reported the shark was 6 feet long.

Gosford Hospital confirmed that a man who had been attacked by a shark was admitted to their Emergency Department but could not yet confirm his condition or identity.
