 Sticky wicket of cost

Sticky wicket of cost

01 Mar, 2010 08:34 AM
MY son and his partner are passionate about the Australian cricket team and wanted to see them play the West Indies.

They attended the Twenty20 match at the SCG last Tuesday night and the cost for two for what became about a two-hour match was $193.20.

This was made up of $31.60 each for train fare and $65 each entry.

They are paying off their home, so they will be watching on television next time.

The more fans the better the atmosphere, but there were many vacant seats at the ground.

Which brings us to "has-been" performers, both Australian and international, who in my opinion charge excessively for concerts. Lower your prices.

One day the people who manage the performers will hopefully suffer for their greed.

How's that?

im confused. are you calling some, or all, of the australian cricket team "has-beens"? if so please name them. sport and concerts are two different things. don't mix them up. sport can very strange sometimes, your son watched live the second fastest ever half century in 20/20 cricket (dave warner). it was awesome power hitting. got to be happy with that, and if not, don't go to the cricket again. simple. the nature of sport is that sometimes your team gets flogged, sometimes they hand out a flogging. a good close game is never guaranteed. the aussies whipped the kiwis in the first 20/20 game and then got beat in a nail biter. its the way it goes. but now concerts: tom jones was great, ac/dc was great, whitney houston (we have a problem) was garbage. britney spears was crap. the promoters know what they are bringing on tour and to display this refuse at seriously over inflated prices is what i would call a scam. greedy and selfish. not good for anyone, particularly the artist. britney and whitney will never tour here again. the promoters of these "artists" should be treated with disdain and caution.

Why is someone's ability (or inability) to afford a ticket the promoter's problem? If promoters can fill an auditorium with people willing to pay high prices for tickets, how is that the promoter's problem?? of course they should charge as much as people can afford to pay! If you don't think it's worth it - don't buy a ticket! One way to get ticket prices down is to STOP PAYING the big money. Whinging about it is just idiotic.

Are we seeing too much cricket this season. It's been a long time since I attended a day- nighter at the SCG. But the trip and the day was well worth the experience.

vote with your feet. If it's too much, don't go. If the promoter starts losing money they'll change their behaviour very quickly. The market corrects anomalies very quickly

I can't think of a more boring way to spend my money than watching cricket.

On the subject of cricket, silly me on hearing that John Howard a former lawyer may become president of the ICC,thinking it was the International Criminal Court, now I hear that it was the cricket council. I think this would be like like waveing a red flag in front of the bull, where terrorism is concerned. For the record , Howard plunged Australia into the Iraq war, a war based on lies.
