 Stockland uni car park

Stockland uni car park

11 Mar, 2010 08:57 AM
IN trying to attend my lecture yesterday morning at Newcastle university, I endured 20 minutes of traffic congestion in the car park with no sign of a free space.

Despite 2010 parking permits costing more than $120, security staff were not informing students that there were no spaces left, leaving them to fight the traffic chaos inside the grounds.

I gave up and parked at the Jesmond shopping centre and caught a bus to the uni, having missed my first class.

I have been told by the uni that there are more parking permits sold than there are parking spaces.

How does it expect its students to attend classes? Is it simply relying on the generous management of Stockland to supply free parking spaces?

All will be well when the uni moves into Newcastle city. You will be able to catch a train right to the front door, unless the idiots close the line of course.

Why not car pool with a couple of other students and arrive a bit earlier?

and does the university think that things will get better when they move some faculties into the CBD? you cant just keep enrolling people and not provide them with the basic necessities. people say we should be catching public transport, but to get from warners bay to the uni is a bit of a mission. and, lol, they want to close the rail line into town? the campus was designed by someone really bright, you can just tell from its layout. probably really smart but with no common sense.

catch the train from where muriel it doesn't go to any suburbs people actually live in this city. I found their are car parks at the university all the time it's just some of them are inconvenient everyone wants to park in the few that are close to the classes The university is conglomeration of seperate centres of learning that came before it they have done remarkably well from what it was when I first went there. As for Warners Bay hows a rail line going to help the railway doesn't run pass suburbs people live and the few it does the station is hidden in parks or out of the way with the exception of Cardiff no other station in city serve the population.

I could car pool with other students and arrive earlier, but getting there at 8:30am for a 1pm class really doesn't work well for me. And yes, Judgedredd is correct - trying to catch a bus from Warners Bay just is not convenient. I'd like to know which platform I'm supposed to go to in order to catch the train home to Warners Bay as Muriel suggests.

Catch the train to Cardiff and ride your bike to Warners Bay. I see workers do this sort of thing every day of the week. Or is that not convenient for you ...

Great carrying 20 Kg of text books and important documents, probably a laptop as most Uni students do these days on a bike. Brilliant! not to mention rain or heat great way to prepare for that big presentation worth 20% of your final mark... Trains in Newcastle are inconvenient no matter which way you look at it and their is no workable solution but I am happy to hear one if you can figure one out. Although your last suggestion doesn't fill me with hope

BarryC, Trains are inconvenient for people who never catch public transport and go verywhere by car...sound familiar. Try thinking of people who do use public transport instead for a change.

Muriel, you have to make allowances for BarryC and his group, see when you go everywhere in a car and never catch public transport you dont understand the people that do catch public transport and consequently these people have never heard of backpacks as such. They dont understand that you can place all your books and food in a backpack and cycle to the railway station, backpacks also come in handy when walking around the university. Believe me BarryC, It is a great invention and people actually use them to place all their belongings in when travelling overseas.

If the Premier of NSW and Leader of the Federal Opposition can ride bikes to work in Sydney and Canberra, I am sure a uni student could ride one from Warners Bay to Cardiff with a few books in their pannier bags.
