Taking it from the street

08 Feb, 2012 07:38 AM
THERE is a solution to the problem of congested streets around Westfield Kotara – move the vehicles into the shopping centre car park which has hundreds of available spaces daily.

This would return the streets to the residents and allow access to schools and sporting amenities in Lexington Parade.

I believe parking fees are preventing staff and shoppers who require more than three hours from parking in the shopping centre car park.

Why can’t Newcastle City Council and Westfield amend the parking fees to encourage staff and shoppers to use the hundreds of spare spaces daily in the shopping centre?

This could be achieved by extending the free parking time, increasing the number of staff parking spaces and recognising that there are only a few really busy shopping days in a year for special occasions and sales.

Westfield won’t allow that they would lose money.

westfield does not allow staff to use the customer carpark once the staff carpark fills up, and the staff carpark does not hold the staff from the 5 major shops (target, kmart, david jones, woolies and cloes) let alone the 100 odd other shops, go figure

Archartects only seem to think of today eg 50 customers equals 50 car spaces I don't think they look into the future

If you think that staff parking is an oversight, think about the garbage as the architects don't!

It's not rocket science: I believe Westfield will always put profits ahead of staff and local residents. No brainer really!
