 Think of the damage

Think of the damage

02 Feb, 2010 10:59 AM
IMAGINE the psychological damage to youngsters if we stopped their graffiti of public and private property. We should be doing more for these budding artists.

Like the "legal wall" we should designate an alley where it is legal for these exuberant youngsters to freely assault members of the public. Psychologists would vouch for the irreparable damage we would be doing if we were to make these future society leaders bottle up their impulses. Furthermore we could conscript members of the community for a weekly friendly glassing.

As for myself, I just love cleaning the graffiti off my property each week. By the way, I want the addresses of all those in support of the skate park's legal wall. It would be a travesty for them not to share in the fun.

its the kiddy gloves approach to law breakers that irks me. why do we catch someone and slap them on the wrists and say naughty naughty and then let them go? spare the rod and spoil the child may have had some merit to it after all. people, not just kids, know they can get away with heaps now and not worry about it. and thats just plain wrong.

Oh Ross, they are entitled to deface legal wall and every other wall, fence, light pole or any thing else they can use their paint cans on. Just ask the two idiots that critised my comments in these forums one week ago. The brats need a good dose of military exercise.

Maintain Regain ! If they never maintain that wall we have all seen what will happen shear kaos with a spraycan is a sure thing with in the CBD itself. If they paint that wall every 6 months you will find that it will minimise the graffiti problem in the City Centre as the first coat of paint over the Graffiti wall has proven.

It's not only judgedredd that is irked by the kiddy gloves approach. Those that are irked, and they are the majority, have been blindsided by the minority that promote Political Correctness. PC gave us "Child Rights", and these killed any chance for the parent, or the teacher to do their job of rearing and teaching any child that didn't like the rules. So now we have these weak kneed minority idiots, making up new rules to suit these lawless idiots, oops sorry, artists. All this to make an unlawful act lawful. It's enough to make one sick.

These people who persist in the exercise of spray painting any thing in sight are purely vandals. Legal walls as they refer to them, is if they have to should be the only place they can demonstrate their art. But how many murals can one wall hold.

Well put Ross. Graffitti is simply vandalism, nothing more, nothing less and it should be treated accordingly. The claim that it is perpetrated by bored youths who have been mistreated by society and need an outlet for their creative urges and anger is just nonsense. They do it because it gives them a thrill. If we want to stop it and most decent people I know do, then we need to concentrate on catching a few of the "artists" and punishing them severely. Make the punishment for the individual equal to the collective cost and disgust felt by those that have to clean or view the graffitti everyday. When the "artist" is constantly required to pay a high price for practicing his "art" then he might think twice before spraying.

You can't possibly be serious, Ross. You believe there is some sort of link between graffiti and glassing attacks? You are incredibly ignorant, and your generalisation of all graffiti artists as threatening and violent is reprehensible. What are you really cranky about?

He's probably cranky at the lack of any future, some of these vandals are going to have. I know i'm concerned, at their age I was going to Ncle Tech four nights a week.

I made the same point to someone the other day: why don't we have places where other criminal acts are sanctioned? The answer is because it is ridiculous. Society has gone so far in appeasing criminals that good citizens are suffering for it.
