Try a bus, you’ll like it

Try a bus, you’ll like it

I REALLY feel for John Davies (‘‘Fix the meters or stop fining us’’ Letters 18/1) and his parking problems in Newcastle’s East End.

A quick look at the Newcastle bus route maps indicates at least seven bus services in or not far from his suburb.

I don't know how much he paid for his parking, but probably a lot more than the fares.

A nice relaxing bus ride through the suburbs is a guaranteed method of reducing the stress and indigestion caused by worrying about a parking fine.

A bonus is getting to look at places you haven’t seen or been to before.

Bravo John O'Brien, driving is really a 'mugs game' these days!

I would much rather ride my bike in, it's free, fun and it takes as long as waiting for the bus to arrive takes.

Where's The 100 bus when you need an expert opinion?

I was told to take my bike to work so I put it in the back of the ute!

Oh yeah, buses are fantastic. Especially when drivers do not know their own routes to the point that their best suggestion is to get off and walk the 3 kilometres home.

So I'll catch a train. Oh wait, no I won't! Adamstown Station doesn't allow for people to pay with notes or EFTPOS!

I guess I'll keep driving then.

yeah. and take 6 grocery bags weighing 4kg each and see how long you like it.

Unless where you go and where you live are on the same route, then buses can become a pain.

The buses between Newcastle East and Callaghan take over an hour for what is really a 15min drive by car. No wonder everyone drives to uni and into the city instead of relying on public transport. If it was better, people WOULD use it.

I hate buses they are full of people with cigarette breath!

@maxe - During the am paek the 104 from Scott St / Parnell Pl does take 1hr & 2-min to the University (Maths bus stop) But from Newcastle Station the the 100 takes 41-min & the 226 takes 37-min. They are slightly faster off-peak. However if you decided to walk to Newcastle station the train takes just 13-mins to Warabrook. Why? Unlike buses the train doesn't get caught in the traffic. It's cheaper too!
