IF you are considering buying a pet, be it a dog, cat or other animal, for someone or for yourself this Christmas, please consider carefully.
On a regular basis, I am confronted by pet owners who, quite frankly, should not have the privilege or responsibility of owning an animal. I’ve seen (or heard) dogs barking continuously as their owners do not have the time to spend with them or take them for a walk. Other dogs roam the streets, running in and out of traffic. I’ve seen cats in poor physical health, left without access to fresh water.
Owning an animal is a commitment for life. Apart from the basic animal rights – food, water and shelter – animals deserve an environment where they are exercised, socialised and stimulated and free from cruelty.
