Parents collect degree in memory of their son

YESTERDAY marked the end of a journey for parents Abby and Hugh Davis.

The South Australian couple collected their son Robbie’s architecture degree at the University of Newcastle engineering and built environment graduations.

Robbie Davis, 22, died in a car accident at Lambton on April 4.

He was killed instantly when his Toyota Yaris and a Nissan Patrol collided at the intersection of Griffiths and Turton Roads.

Robbie was on his way to the beach.

His passion for architecture had led him to Newcastle in 2008 because he rated the university’s course as the best.

He quickly made Newcastle home and had become a head of a house at the university to help new students become more settled.

Family and friends who had travelled from South Australia held a wake with Robbie’s university friends yesterday afternoon after the graduation ceremony.

‘‘It’s more of a celebration,’’ Abby Davis said.

Mrs Davis said the graduation was the end of a journey for all the students and for Robbie.

‘‘We are grateful to finish that journey for him,’’ she said.
