ANOTHER late-night bashing in Newcastle has left a young man in hospital with a fractured skull and another man facing serious assault charges.
The victim, 25, was bashed during a scuffle outside a city hotel about 2am yesterday.
He was in a stable condition in John Hunter Hospital yesterday, but has been unable to speak about the incident due to his injuries.
Witnesses said police and paramedics ‘‘swarmed’’ on the street about 2am, which is after the mandated lockout at the venue.
The alleged offender, 20, was arrested and granted conditional bail by police.
He will face court next month.
The incident is the latest in a recent string of attacks in Newcastle.
On March 31, Benjamin Thorne almost lost his eye after being glassed during an altercation with two men.
On the same day, the Newcastle Herald reported that a string of king hits and violence had prompted a warning to offenders from senior police.
Central Hunter licensing police are investigating an alleged responsible service of alcohol breach at the Bank Hotel in East Maitland, which could result in the hotel being given a five-figure fine. A police spokeswoman said licensing officers undertook a routine business inspection at the Melbourne Street premises on Saturday night.
They allegedly uncovered a number of breaches, including a female staff member who could not produce a copy of her responsible service of alcohol certificate.
Police said licensing officers were still investigating the matter and are yet to issue any fines.
