Karise wows judges on The Voice

CENTRAL Coast teen Karise Eden, 19, left judges ‘‘gobsmacked’’ with her beautiful vocals on the Australian premiere of The Voice.

Eden, who grew up living in refuges before settling with her current foster parents, proved to be the voice of the night with a rendition of It’s A Man’s World.

‘‘I’m so gobsmacked we got to hear that tonight,’’ judge Keith Urban said.

All the judges selected Eden within seconds of her starting the song but the teen chose to be under the guidance of British soul singer Seal.

Each judge selects 12 performers to be on their team with auditions continuing on NBN tonight.

‘‘I know this is what I want to do and I just want to give it a shot,’’ Eden said on last night’s show. ‘‘Growing up I felt pushed down and not really worth much.’’

The teen has never had a singing lesson, but was given a guitar by her foster parents Marilyn and Frank. Newcastle contestant Jerome O’Connor also auditioned on The Voice Australia on television last night, but was not selected to compete for the major prize of a recording contract.
