Police searching for man after attempted abduction of girl

POLICE are looking for a man driving a small green car with a purple bonnet after a schoolgirl reported an attempted abduction at Mayfield this morning.

The 13-year-old told police she was waiting to cross the intersection of Hanbury Street and Macquarie Street about 8.10am when the car stopped in front of her.

She told police the man yelled at her to get in the car before gesturing that he was getting out.

The girl ran off to school and reported the incident to her principal.

The man is described as being aged in his 30s, of medium build with muscular arms, with a fair complexion and short brown hair.

He had a ‘‘spacer’’ earring in his left ear, which the girl said appeared to be big enough to fit a 20-cent piece in it.

The car was described as a two-door green vehicle with the purple bonnet and green p-plates.

Information should be forwarded to Newcastle City police on 49266 599 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
