IT IS paramount that the state and federal governments listen to the community about the potential impacts of the proposed T4 coal loader on internationally recognised wetlands, protected fauna and water quality in the Hunter River, Greens MP and environmental spokeswoman Cate Faehrmann says.
Ms Faehrmann paid a visit to Ash Island at Kooragang this morning for a closer look at the potentially affected areas along with local environmentalists and fauna experts.
‘‘The potential environmental devastation ... is a serious issue,’’ she said.
‘‘Our hope rests with the Federal Government, that they will recognise the potential impact.’’
The closing date for public submissions on the Port Waratah Coal Services Environmental Impact Statement has been extended by two weeks until May 7.
