THE key witness in the case against armed robber accused Jamie Bevan was a manipulative fraud who was prone to using the truth in a flexible way, a jury heard yesterday.
He had his own reasons for giving evidence against Mr Bevan, including a discount on sentence for his involvement in the robbery of newsagents at Carrington, Beresfield and Adamstown, defence barrister Phillip Butterfield said.
Mr Bevan, 21, has pleaded not guilty to three robberies, robbing a truck driver, and possessing a firearm.
Crown prosecutor Wayne Creasey said the evidence against Mr Bevan included that he boasted about his involvement.
The jury is expected to begin deliberations today.
