Sponsors on side as Jets return

WORD that Hunter Sports Group will continue running the Newcastle Jets is sweet music to the ears of major sponsors.

NIB, QR National and Westfield Kotara have deals that cover sponsorship for both the Jets and the Newcastle Knights.

NIB chief executive officer and managing director Mark Fitzgibbon said getting Nathan Tinkler back on board was the best outcome for the Hunter community.

‘‘We share the Hunter Sports Group vision of the Hunter becoming a hub of sporting excellence and we believe that’s always been the group’s intention,’’ he said.

‘‘We look forward to the ongoing development of the Jets and hopefully some future championships.’’

A QR National spokesman was excited by the prospect of Hunter Sports Group’s dual ownership of the Hunter’s two main sporting clubs.

‘‘We’re really pleased with this outcome and what it means for QR National’s sponsorship, especially the work we’re doing at a grassroots level in the Newcastle community,’’ he said.

Westfield Kotara general manager Ryan Burns said the continuation of the Newcastle Jets under HSG was great for the company’s efforts to support football codes in the region and stay involved in the community.
