NEWCASTLE Jets youth coach Clayton Zane was left ruing several turnovers in possession as his side wAS beaten 2-0 today by Melbourne Victory at the SS Anderson Reserve in Port Melbourne.
It was the Jets’ second-straight defeat and leaves them third on the National Youth League ladder on 10 points, behind the Victory (15) and Central Coast (15), who play tomorrow against Western Sydney.
Senior Victory players Isaka Cernak (38th minute) and Matthew Foschini (52nd) scored their goals either side of half-time, both following turnovers from the Jets.
‘‘Based on last week it was a much better performance, but we didn’t really threaten as much as we would have liked,’’ Zane said.
‘‘We dominated possession, but in that last third we didn’t have the cutting edge to break them down.’’
Victory were reduced to 10 men in the 87th minute when substitute Theodore Markelis received his second yellow card.
Jets midfielder Nick Cowburn almost made the Victory pay immediately but his goal was disallowed after it deflected off an offside Kale Bradbery.
Zane rated midfielder Mitchell Oxborrow and Andrew Hoole as his leading performers.
Hoole moved from right back to the wing and was tireless before being substituted in the 59th minute with a cork.
