HUNTER rail services could be split off from Sydney’s under a plan to be announced today by Transport Minister Gladys Berejiklian.
One half of the operation will reportedly be called Sydney Trains, the other half NSW Trains.
The state government is set to announce an overhaul of RailCorp, which the opposition says is a first step to privatising at least part of the state railway system.
Although only limited details are known, the government has reportedly decided to split the existing passenger rail services into Sydney and regional services.
Mrs Berejiklian was quoted as saying that rail commuters in Newtown had different needs to those in Newcastle.
