Hunter teachers strike Friday

HUNTER state school teachers will stop work for two hours from 9am on Friday alongside NSW colleagues.

The teachers will discuss concerns about the state government’s Local Schools, Local Decisions policy, which will give principals more power over staffing and budgets.

Teachers Federation president Maurie Mulheron said Education Minister Adrian Piccoli had not given guarantees on staffing, class sizes, curriculum, salaries and job security.

Mr Piccoli said the reforms were ‘‘to suit students, not the union’’.

Parents are advised to check supervision arrangements with schools.
