PLANS for a $15 million coastal walkway linking Merewether to Nobbys will be placed on public exhibition by Newcastle City Council.
The Bathers Way Public Domain Plan envisages one-way traffic on Shortland Esplanade and a six-kilometre four-metre-wide path linking the city’s beaches.
Landscaping, shading, seating, viewing areas, picnic tables, barbecues and bicycle racks are all included in the plan.
The first part of the walkway - which includes a viewing area and path around Bar Beach car park - was opened on Friday.
The plans for the total project were also unveiled on Friday.
Public submissions will be invited for a period of about a month.
