DANIEL Forbes was this morning shown the gun that police allege was used to shoot Joshua Maynard in a Raymond Terrace street.
Forbes, who has been sentenced for his role in the death of Mr Maynard, said he wasn't sure if it was the gun that he saw on the night of June 29, 2010, but he agreed it looked similar to the one that Chad Shedden "broke in half" and loaded that night.
Mr Shedden, 34, has pleaded not guilty to murder, but guilty to manslaughter.
His barrister previously told the jury that Mr Shedden was acting in defence of himself and his brother when he fired the gun, but that response was excessive.
Mr Forbes agreed that he viewed John and Chad Shedden as father figures.
The Newcastle Supreme Court trial continues.
