A DRUNKEN probationary constable who showed his badge to bouncers who had kicked him out of a Merewether pub before throwing a punch at one of them could face the sack.
Shaun John Bevan, 22, of Barnsley, pleaded guilty in Newcastle Local Court yesterday to common assault and failing to leave licensed premises, after an alcohol-induced melee at the Prince Of Wales Hotel, on February 2.
Bevan will be sentenced on July 16.
He has been on restricted duties as a probationary constable at Central Hunter local area command.
A spokesman said his position would be reviewed after the guilty plea.
A statement of facts said a bouncer asked Bevan to leave the hotel because he thought he was intoxicated.
It said Bevan approached bouncers after he was shown the door, to be told he was dicing with a $550 on-the-spot fine.
He showed his NSW Police identification badge before, without provocation, throwing a punch at one of them.
He was restrained, with one of the bouncers sitting on him, before police were called.
