Local songwriter studies with Gotye

NEWCASTLE singer Kira Puru is inspired after attending a songwriting session with hit maker Gotye.

Puru attended the songwriting masterclass with the Melbourne singer at the Song Summit in Sydney yesterday.

She gained access to the session through a Triple j Unearthed competition, which chose one musician from each state.

‘‘He’s a gentleman,’’ Puru said.

‘‘He is very well spoken and incredibly intelligent and has amazing technical knowledge when it comes to music.’’

In a further coup for Newcastle-based Puru, the soulful songstress, along with her band The Bruise, is the feature artist on Triple j Unearthed website and radio station this week.

‘‘A lot of high level performers look on the Unearthed site to see what’s happening in music so this is an incredible acknowledgement,’’ she said.

The Song Summit was a three-day music conference held in Sydney from Saturday until yesterday.
