NEWCASTLE Knight Aku Uate won the City of Newcastle 2011 Sports Person of the Year at a gala presentation at Newcastle City Hall last night.
Uate is a two-time Dally M winger of the year, State of Origin and Australian representative winger.
Judged as the best winger in the world by the Rugby League International Federation in 2011, Uate won winger of the year at the Dally M Awards for the second year in a row, finishing the season as the top try-scoring winger and the competition’s leading tackle-breaker.
He capped off an amazing season in October when he made his debut for Australia at Hunter Stadium.
