New guide aims to put Newcastle stamp on conferences

A NEW guide to promote Newcastle as a conference venue aims to build on $12 million the industry already injects into the city’s economy.

The Newcastle Conference and Meeting Planners Guide will be launched this afternoon and promoted as a valuable tool for professionals.

It highlights conference and meeting venues in the city, as well as other attractions and Newcastle’s iconic natural assets.

Newcastle City Council’s business and tourism conventions developer Georgia Murphy said the guide would put Newcastle’s stamp on the conference industry.

“Every day the facilities and services available for meeting and conferences in Newcastle are expanding,’’ Ms Murphy said.

“With an expanding economy, thriving hospitality industry and a growing community, Newcastle was in need of its own guide.

The guide was developed by Newcastle Convention Bureau, which falls under Newcastle City Council’s umbrella, and the Newcastle Tourism Industry Group.

The convention bureau injects between $9 million and $12 million into the local economy.
