Raymond Terrace shooter found guilty of murder

The man charged with the shooting death of Joshua Maynard at Raymond Terrace has today been found guilty of murder.

Chad Shedden, 34, had pleaded not guilty to murder, but guilty to manslaughter following the shotgun death of Mr Maynard just after midnight on June 30, 2010.

A Newcastle Supreme Court jury has taken less than half a day to deliberate over evidence provided during the three-week trial and delivered a verdict shortly after 11am today.

The jury has found that the shooting was a deliberate act of vengeance for the savage bashing of another man earlier in the night.

Newcastle Supreme Court Justice Elizabeth Fullerton has accepted the jury’s verdict and will fix a date for sentence proceedings to begin.
