A MAN is due to face court over an alleged attempted abduction of an 11-year-old boy at Adamstown.
Police said that just after 3pm yesterday, the boy was riding his bike across the Adamstown railway gates.
While waiting for cars to clear, one vehicle stopped next to him.
The car window was wound down and a man told the boy to get in the car.
The boy rode off.
He went to a nearby friend’s house and raised the alarm.
Police spoke to the boy and his family and got a description of the car and driver.
The boy’s family also posted a description on social media.
Friends who received the information later spotted a car matching the description in Adamstown and a man acting suspiciously.
They took photos and sent them to police.
After confirming a match and obtaining registration details, officers attended the owner’s address in Adamstown.
A 47-year-old man was taken to Newcastle Police Station and charged with attempted abduction.
He was bailed to appear in Newcastle Local Court on June 26.
