EMERGENCY services have started dealing with impacts of severe weather scheduled to hit the Hunter.
Fire crews said they had been called to powerlines and poles arched and coming down on the Central Coast late this afternoon.
Winds of up to 64kmh were recorded at Norah Head at 6.34pm.
State Emergency Service crews have been battling storms and localised flooding at Eagleton in Winston Drive and Lemon Tree Passage in Cook Parade at Port Stephens.
Severe weather and high seas are expected to batter the Hunter throughout the night.
Homes in Newcastle and Woy Woy, Empire Bay and Killcare Heights on the Central Coast are among 10,000 around the state without power, energy supplier Ausgrid reported.
