ABOUT 200 University of Newcastle graduates gathered at City Hall last night to celebrate the launch of a new chapter in the global alumni network.
They exchanged notes on their campus and career experiences at the inaugural meeting of the Hunter Alumni Chapter.
Comedian and Bachelor of Arts graduate Mikey Robbins was master of ceremonies, delivering many an anecdote from his time at university in the 1980s.
He revealed how he bought a tweed jacket and woollen tie to pose as a lecturer so he could eat in the staff dining room.
More than 35,000 graduates are in the Hunter, making the group a potentially important player in the region.
Hunter Alumni Chapter committee chair Roxana Olivares said last night the group’s formation had been a long time coming.
‘‘The executive committee of the alumni has been discussing a chapter for the Hunter for the last couple of years and we thought now was time to do just that,’’ she said. ‘‘We’re looking to engage with local graduates and form a network where we can build mentor opportunities.’’
