A FEW years ago Margaret Scott thought about ditching the entertainment role and putting an end to displaying Christmas lights at her Wallsend home.
However, after pleas from the neighbourhood children, she changed her mind.
‘‘They all came round and begged us to keep going,’’ she said.
‘‘That’s the main reason we do it now, just to see the kids’ faces.’’
The display is in its 30th year having grown from the original single set of lights.
This year the home, at 10 Ellismere Road, has Santa and his sleigh, his mailbox and even his train decorating the front yard.
‘‘It just kind of progressed, bit by bit,’’ Mrs Scott said.
‘‘My husband [Ron] had to build a room underneath the house just to keep it all in.
‘‘We call it Pandora’s box.’’
The house is not just a display on the front either. Mrs Scott has made sure the entire place is covered with decorations and lights, including the back verandah, the living rooms and the kitchen.
‘‘I draw the line in doing the bedrooms,’’ she said.
