NEWCASTLE Coal Infrastructure Group has celebrated a milestone, passing 50 million tonnes of coal exported since operations began in 2010.
The 50 millionth tonne came from Whitehaven Coal bound for South Korea and was loaded onto a vessel at Kooragang Island on Thursday.
NCIG general manager Paul Beale said the terminal was closing in on its capacity of 53 million tonnes a year.
Upon completion, the group loader will be able to export 66 million tonnes a year.
