A PETROL tanker carrying 16,000 litres of fuel rolled and exploded near Seaham yesterday.
The 23-year-old driver suffered serious burns and a Hunter New England Health spokeswoman said he was in a stable condition in John Hunter Hospital this morning.
Police and firefighters remained at the scene for several hours yesterday, after the accident sparked a small grass fire.
About 1.25pm the driver lost control of the tanker on Seaham Road. It rolled a number of times before exploding.
Seaham Road was closed in both directions until about 5pm yesterday.
